- To find information on something they don’t know about. For example. I want to find a new takeaway, my usual didn’t have a website or telephone number so I decided to look around for another one. I would type something like “Pizza takeaway Bristol” in the search engine. Hopefully, I would then find a new takeaway. As I browse through the options in the search engine results, I am a cold prospect.
To appear in the search engine results for your branded terms takes very little effort. Try it now, type in your business name into Google and see where you are in the search results. You should appear at least on the first page. If you don’t then something is seriously wrong!

To appear in the search engine results for non-branded terms takes a lot more effort but it is a way of being visible to a cold audience (cold traffic) who know very little about you.
So, to answer the question “Is SEO right for me?” you need to answer the questions below. If you answer yes to any, then SEO is right for you.
- Do you want to be found in search engines for non-branded terms?
- Do you want to get traffic to your website from the search engines?
- Do you want to turn search engine traffic into business? This one is important because you need to experience a return on your SEO investment otherwise, it really isn’t worth it.
- Does your business need new customers to help it grow? Search engines are a great place to show up for people who are searching for your products and services, but they don’t yet know you.
- Are your paid advertising costs getting more expensive? Traffic from search engines is FREE. Well, you do need to invest the time and effort into getting visible on search engines but that investment pays off eventually.
- Are you operating in a highly competitive industry? If you are, chances are your competition is highly visible in the search engines so you need to be there too.
- Do you need to be seen as an authority in your line of work? When you appear in the search engine results for many searches, your status as an authority will grow. People will begin to trust and respect you more – which leads to more business.
