So what defines a visible and valuable website? It depends on who’s perspective we are talking about. So let’s start with your website visitor.

DEFINITION OF A VALUABLE WEBSITE ACCORDING TO YOUR VISITOR.

Also, your visitor can have a number of goals they want to achieve while on your website. If you know the users goals then you can make sure you help them towards achieving their goals.

But how do you know their goals? You need to have some clearly defined user personas. (You should create these as part of the website planning process) So the definition for a useful website would be; A valuable website is one which enables the user to achieve their goals. What exactly is a valuable website though? For the user, I would say it one where they leave with more than when they arrived. For this example, they would leave with more knowledge. What knowledge are they looking for? You need a combination of user persona, product information and sales process to answer this. (We investigate this as part of our discovery process) So the definition for valuable website would be; A valuable website is one which enables the user to leave with more knowledge than when they arrived. This is quite obvious when it is staring at you in black and white.

How can a website be valuable to your business?

Similar to your visitor, it would help you reach your business goals.

What are your business goals? You can’t really create a decent website without knowing this. (This should be covered in the website planning process) So the definition for a valuable website would be; A valuable website is one which enables the business to achieve its goals. How can a website add value to a business? By giving the business more of something in the future than what the business had at the start. For a business that could be more customers, more enquiries, more profit etc. Simply more of something that is valuable to the business.

My firm belief is that a website should be valuable and visible for you and your customers, otherwise – what is the point?

That means it helps your users do what they set out to do and they leave with value. And, it helps your business towards its goals and bring vale into your business.
