Do I need a website for my business – advice for everyone.

by | Aug 10, 2017 | Website Planning, Websites

I was asked yesterday “Do I really need a website for my business? Can I just manage with a Facebook page?”

The truth is, no, you don’t NEED a website to succeed in business. Businesses were doing quite well before the internet came along.

There are plenty of businesses doing well through word of mouth marketing. Local businesses also do well with very little online presence.

So, what should YOU do?

There are no hard and fast rules.

It really depends on your business and your goals.

A website is really a marketing tool. It can help you get leads and make sales for your business.

It can help you get leads and make sales for your business.

It can help position you as an authority in your field.

It can automate many business tasks, like making appointments, answering FAQs, logging support queries etc.

It can help you scale your business.

There are many many reasons to have a website. Most of those reasons are around making your life easier and sustainably growing your business.

Also, you own your website. You can update it, monitor it and improve it when ever and how ever you want.

Facebook can change its rules at the drop of a hat (and it does). What is free now might not be free tomorrow.

With something as important as marketing your business you are safer to use your own website as the central marketing hub. It’s all yours!

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can do it all from Facebook because it’s simple / free / quick …

You are running a business, not a hobby.

Treat it like a business.

Start off right and you will be thankful.

Yes you can have a simple website to start. It doesn’t need bells and whistles. It just needs to the job you want it to.

Get leads.

Get sales.

Make that decision and you are on your way.

Make sure your site is fast. No one waits for slow sites.

Make it obvious what you are selling. Be unique, have a strong message and shout about your results.

Be you, let people get to know you through your content. This is why people will buy.

Make sure you have some way to capture leads. Most people won’t be ready to use your contact form, you need to be smarter than that.

Use email to follow up on your leads.

Create content regularly to share your knowledge, help people and show you know what you are talking about.

If you want to be found on search engines, make sure you have your SEO foundations in place too.

You may not see results immediately which is why it is vital to track, test and improve your way to success.

That can all seem like a lot to take on at the start.

It can seem scary. It’s technical. So you could just pass the whole thing to some dodgy fellow on fiverr.

Or do nothing and keep your head in the sand.

Or come to me for help.

I can coach you through these foundational steps and help you out when you are really stuck.

Best of both worlds.

Contact me if you want to have a chat about it. I don’t bite.
